Sara Gassaway
Hello everybody! My name is Sara Gassaway and I'm hoping I haven't bitten off more than I can chew by taking the program full-time! I am a full-time Cardiac Cath Lab RN with call at Cape Fear and am taking a co-req (statistics) at a local community college. All this while I'm a military wife (who's husband is extremely supportive) and mother to a 15 month old girl and almost 3 year old boy. We're also trying to sale our house because we have orders to Germany next year, which is why I have to take the program full time!
I graduated from Wake Technical Community College in 2006 and started in the ER. I recently left the ER (I was working with Jenny Keys, a fellow classmate). I have found the Cath Lab to be a wonderful change from the ER (no stumped toes in the cath lab!) My long term plan is to obtain my BSN while in the Cath Lab and after school get into the ICU. After I feel confident that I have learned enough from the ICU I intend to go back to school for my CRNA.
My satisfaction in nursing comes when taking care of critically ill patients. I thrive when I know that they have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. In addition, I also feel very fortunate to be able to explain, educate and comfort the family members of my critically ill patient.
