Lesslie Overton

My name is Lesslie Overton, I am originally from right here in Wilmington. I graduated from East Carolina University in 2002 with a BA in Psychology. After graduation, I decided I did not wish to pursue my masters in psychology and made the decision to go back to school for nursing. I graduated from Coastal Carolina CC in 2007 with my ADN. Since then I have been employed with New Hanover Health Network at Cape Fear Hospital. Cape Fear is primarily an Orthopedic hospital, although I do see some medical patients. It has been a valuable learning experience working there, and my coworkers have taught me a lot.

In my spare time I enjoy going to the beach or just being by the water in general. I am just recently engaged and plan to get married next fall. I do not have any children, but one very spoiled cat who may think he is a child. I adopted him while I was in school for my ADN, and he found it to be a hobby of his to sit right on top of my textbooks while I was trying to study. I am very lucky to have my family only about 10 minutes away from me.

My reasons for returning to school are to further my nursing education and hopefully one day return for my masters in nursing. I am undecided on which specialty or concentration to go towards, but in the meantime, I decided to go ahead and get to process started. I have some interest in Nursing Education and maybe teach students or become the hospital educator for employees.
